Views on "Should intelligence tests be used in college admissions and hiring decisions?" BEFORE

To try something new I've decided to write a post today before the debate in class and then write a post tomorrow to see how my perspective has changed. At this point I've read all the materials but am still not as informed as the debaters should be. I thought the study done by Kuncel & Hezlett (2010) was interesting. They had plenty of research to back up there points but as they had said there is plenty of studies varying on the effectiveness of predictability in these tests. I think as far as the question "Should intelligence tests be used in college admissions and hiring decisions?" it is less clear. The article we read trying to answer this question seemed to be  using various pieces of research to back up one perspective. It didn't seem to me to prove it's point and it didn't show much research supporting the other side, while still acknowledging that research was existing. It definitely made me less sure of my past perspective. Before looking at any research I felt that the SATs were useless in predicting my success and a waste of time. However, the more resources you spend preparing for the tests and the more natural ability you have will help you do better on the test. These are also factors that are important to success in an academic environment. I don't want to say that ability can be judged by a single score but logically it makes sense. We test ourselves to show what we know and how well we can use information we learned in the future. I'm looking forward to the debate tomorrow and seeing how my perspective may change.
